THE Winchelsea Pool will open this Sunday (February 19) to give the community an opportunity to send off the much-loved facility before its revamp later this year.

The free event, hosted by the Surf Coast Shire Council, will give locals and visitors the chance to reminisce on six decades of memories at the facility, with a series of activities, games and giveaways on offer for attendees to enjoy.

Surf Coast Shire Councillor Adrian Schonfelder said the event would be held almost 60 years to the day since the grand opening of the pool in 1963.

“Due to its ageing infrastructure and equipment, it’s time for it to be renewed so it can continue to support the health and wellbeing of locals and visitors,” Cr Schonfelder said.

“Thank you to community members who have contributed input to the revamp project, including selecting a preferred concept design which proposes to replicate the main pool, enlarge the medium pool and include a new splash park and amenity building.”

At the end of 2022-23 pool season (March 13), the Surf Coast Shire Council will tender for a design and construction contractor, who in turn will develop a detailed plan and design for the construction of the facility.

“The event on 19 February is a great way for people to celebrate as we prepare to close this chapter and dive into what’s next,” Mr Schonfelder said.

“Thank you to the Winchelsea and surrounding community for their support and patience during the upcoming closure and revamp.”
