GEELONG Arts Centre is on the lookout for artists who are looking to push the boundaries and advance their arts practice as part of its Creative Engine Grant Program.

Six local artists will share in $64,000 in cash and in-kind studio access and mentorship as the program offers direct support to local performing artists.

Now in its sixth year, the program provides artists with a connection to the Geelong and G21 community access to studio spaces and resources to create, workshop and develop new and exciting work.

Geelong Arts Centre chief executive officer and creative director Rhys Holden said the Creative Engine is about nurturing creative growth and supporting artists.

“Geelong is home to some of the most talented and innovative artists and many amazing projects have been developed under our artist development programs,” he said.

“We are excited to help bring bold, original ideas to life within our community.”

The Creative Engine Grants Program includes the Ignition and Jump Start grants, and Place to Make, which includes in-kind studio access and co-working space access.

Creatives of all mediums are encouraged to apply, from scriptwriting and dance through to community-based practices and live performance.

Creative Engine has invested in more than 950 Victorian artists, with the program covering funding, development and commissions, venue hire and more.

Geelong-based singer, actor, writer and musician Connor Morel has been a recipient of the grants, saying they have given his team the time to interrogate their artform.

“Geelong Arts Centre has been fundamental in the making of my team’s latest work and the overall development of our artists’ practice over the past four years,” he said.

“Time and time again, they’ve come to the table to assist on the journey, and it is the very reason I’ve been able to get two shows off the ground.

“Without such support it simply wouldn’t have happened.”

Additional access supports are available for First Nations artists and artists from diverse backgrounds.

Applications are open until August 18. For more information and to apply, head to geelongartscentre.org.au
