Sparrow Park playground to be renewed
WORKS will begin at Sparrow Park this month, closing the playground and maze for a period of up to eight weeks.
The renewal works follow a period of community consultation completed in early 2023.
The current playground equipment will be replaced with new equipment, a seat and additional trees.
The remainder of the reserve, including the junior skate/scooter area and basketball and netball facilities, will remain open for use by the community during the construction period.
City of Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan welcomed the renewal of the Sparrow Park playground and maze.
“The city is committed to ensuring that our play spaces meet the recreational needs of families in the community,” Mayor Sullivan said.
“We’re grateful for the input of residents through the consultation period and now the time has arrived to bring these plans to fruition.”
Brownbill Ward councillor Peter Murrihy also looked forward to the city delivering the proposed plans.
“We understand the importance of providing play spaces that are easily accessible to residents, and include equipment that is both entertaining and testing, while maintaining high and safe Australian standards,” he said.
“While the closure of the playground and maze will be inconvenient in the short term, the result of the renewal process will be well worth the wait.
“It’s important to note that much of Sparrow Park remains available as the playground is renewed.”
