GEELONG’S popular Botanic Gardens have reopened its annual spring plant sales, allowing the community to take home a piece of the gardens at bargain prices.

The Friends of Geelong Botanic Garden are in the middle of its largest annual plant sale, allowing residents to browse and purchase an array of flora for home use straight from the gardens’ plant nursery – grown by volunteers.

Friends of the Geelong Botanic Gardens administrator Sally Bird said a majority of available plants will attract native birds and pollinators for continual garden growth.

“We market the exchange as a Spring Plant Sale to encourage the Geelong community to prepare for the warmer months.

“Spring obviously is the optimal time for flowers and plants to bloom, so it is also certainly an exciting time of the year for our organisation, and we have a whole range activities set to take place over the coming weeks.”

Geraniums are the most common type of plant available at the plant sales, but the nursery has a large range of flora, such as Australian and exotic plants, drought-tolerant species of plants, and shrubs.

Ms Bird said there would be plenty of volunteers to provide valuable advice.

“Our volunteers spend a lot of time propagating these plants and have a wealth of knowledge readily available for possible buyers.

“So, if anyone is qualified to answer any questions, it’s our definitely our nursery team members.”

Plant sales are on each Wednesday from 9.30am-12.30pm until October 29 and also Sunday, October 8 from 10am-4pm, October 28, from 11am-3pm, and October 29 from 11am-3pm.
