New home for St Mary’s opens
THE St Mary’s Sporting Club has officially opened its new home at Kardinia Park.
The GFL club held a function on Saturday night to open the Don Mathieson Pavilion.
Facing the Anthony Costa Oval and featuring a bar, outside kiosk, trophy cabinet, change rooms and a gym, the pavilion is named after St Mary’s legend Don Mathieson
Mr Mathieson, who died in 2017 at the age of 97, was president of St Mary’s for 27 years as well as president of the Geelong Football League for 16 years.
Geelong MP Christine Couzens and City of Greater Geelong councillors Peter Murrihy and Ron Nelson officially opened the pavilion alongside St Mary’s president Jock McMahon.
Saturday’s function also included the unfurling of St Mary’s two premiership flags – for the GFL men’s senior and Division 1 senior women’s sides – ahead of the St Mary’s vs Leopold game
