SAFER and more reliable travel is on the way for local drivers, cyclists and walkers with the green light given to stage two of a major road project.

Stage two of the Barwon Heads Road Upgrade will start in early 2025 and improve travel safety, reliability and connectivity.

The $250 million project will add extra lanes, upgrade intersections and build shared walking and cycling paths between Charlemont and Armstrong Creek.

The upgrade will help Barwon Heads Road cater for up to 35,000 daily journeys by 2036.

Corangamite federal member Libby Coker said excitement was building for stage two to begin.

“Safer, quicker commutes are what people in our rapidly growing region are calling for, so I’m pleased Stage 2 is about to get underway – the upgrades are going to make people’s lives easier.”

Bellarine MP Alison Marchant said the second stage of works on the Barwon Heads Road Upgrade would improve connectivity and safety for all road users.

Minister for Transport Infrastructure Danny Pearson said the early works will begin in early 2025, followed my major construction in late 2025.
