LOCAL surf and hardware brand Strapper Surf has been lauded for its commitment to the surf community and achieved finalist status for the 2023 Australian Surf & Boardsports Industry Association (SBIA) Awards.

The Torquay born business is up for the Australian Independent Retailer of the Year – Core Board Store and Australian Independent Retailer of the Year – Multi Store titles.

Strapper Surf is a previous winner of both categories and is also a five-time Victoria/Tasmania Surf Shop of the Year winner.

Strapper Surf owner and surfboard shaper Michael Di Sciascio said he was delighted his team were being recognised for their ongoing hard work.

“We are just so stoked!

“Our team work really hard at what we do, so it’s great acknowledgement. Even more so because the nominations come from all the brand suppliers.

“They are all harsh critics to be frank, so to be recognised out of all the suppliers in Australia, is a sign we are doing something really good.

“There’s some amazing finalists this year, so to even be in with a chance is amazing.”

Mr Di Sciascio said the businesses ongoing success was a reflection of the constant stoke the staff have for what they do.

“Everything we do is about going surfing and hanging out with crew who surf.

“We are really passionate about it. Whether it comes from me or the staff, we just live and breathe it.

“It gives you a lot of incentive to do the best job you can, and customers enjoy that aspect and want to be a part of it too.

“We just hopefully attract and help a lot of people who love their surfing and want to be involved with it.”

Strapper Surf has stores in Torquay, Geelong, Ocean Grove and Aireys Inlet.

The winners of the Australian SBIA Awards winners will be announced on October 19 in Manly, Sydney.
