Strassman to tickle ribs at The Palais
AMERICAN comedian, ventriloquist, and international talent David Strassman is back on Australian soil and has his eyes set on Geelong.
Well-known and respected among the entertainment industry for being a tour de force in the world of ventriloquism, Strassman is lined up to wow audiences at Geelong Palais from November 4-6 for his ‘The Chocolate Diet’ tour.
Strassman has not had the chance to entertain Australians for the past five years, but the Californian is enjoying doing what he loves once again since starting his tour in October.
“I first came to Melbourne in 1991 where ‘Hey, Hey, It’s Saturday’ put me on the map, and because Geelong is so close to Melbourne, I would always include it in my regional tours,” Strassman said.
“Tickets have only been on sale for a couple weeks and were selling out briskly, so it should be an awesome time and the best part is I get to sit in Geelong for three days.
“I do love Geelong’s city, it has a wonderful museum, and I’m also selling merchandise out of Popcultcha who I am good friends with too.”
Strassman said his new tour is his funniest to date, taking a hilarious look at peoples’ obsession with sweets and lollies, including the affect it has had on his several characters such as Ted E Bare, Chuck Wood, Kevin The Alien, Grandpa Fred, Sid Beaverman and Button.
Strassman focuses on Ted E Bare’s drama with his self-image and his addiction to chocolate, while the problem is getting worse, especially with the sneaky and evil Chuck Wood leaving tempting donuts around.
Meanwhile, Chuck is also having his own amusing personal drama, a sneaking suspicion that he was carved out of the wrong piece of wood and much more.
“Nobody’s perfect in this world, we all have our own issues and problems, and my puppets are showing theirs and laying out their dirty laundry for all to see,” Strassman added.
“It has proven to have hilarious results already in this incredibly produced and wild production.”
The Chocolate Diet’s previous tour in 2019 completed a sold-out 20-city run, blowing audiences away with its side-splitting comedy and jaw-dropping Puppetronics.
Strassman has added new shows to his Geelong stop due to demand, now performing twice on November 4 at 7pm (sold-out) and 9:15pm, twice on November 5 at 2pm (not for children) and 7pm, and a final show on November 6 at 6pm.
