GEELONG doctor Ade Adesanoye is well aware of the prevalence of mental health issues in society and the impact of prostate cancer.

So he was thrilled to jump on board as the new Geelong host of this year’s Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride.

The ride unites classic and vintage styled motorcycle riders from all over the world to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.

Dr Adesanoye said Sunday’s ride was fantastic.

The group raised $7,000 for men’s health charity Movember with 66 motorcycle riders suiting up for the cruise around Geelong’s streets.

“In my day-to-day work, many people come through my door, and one in about three to four GP consultations are about mental health, sadly,” Dr Adesanoye said.

“And you see how the lives of many people can unravel with your mental health decline.”

Dr Adesanoye said his father had prostate cancer.

“My father had prostate issues, he had to have surgery… it just makes one realise that no one is immune from this.”

He added he had many patients who had died from prostate cancer or with prostate cancer in addition to other things.

“Screening and detection saves lives massively.

“And there are symptoms which men can become aware of and not put off, like waking up several times to urinate, like struggling to start the urination process.”
