Celebrate National Nutrition Week with a free City of Greater Geelong webinar to help local residents “make healthy habits stick and become sustainable”.

The city’s online event on October 11 will be presented by Mel Bald, also known as The Passionate Nutritionist and feature the launch of the city’s Eat Well, Live Well toolkit.

Webinar participants will receive a hard copy of the free toolkit with meal plans, recipes, and factsheets to develop healthy, sustainable eating patterns and skills.

Increasing healthy eating among Greater Geelong residents is one of five health and wellbeing priorities identified in the council’s Our Community Plan 2021-25.

Deputy mayor Trent Sullivan encouraged residents to sign up to the free webinar.

“Maintaining healthy eating habits can be a challenging thing to do regardless of your age, gender or experiences and can easily get lost with everything else happening in the world right now,” Cr Sullivan said.

“With Mel’s knowledge of nutrition, she will provide some practical tips and tricks to community members on how to eat well and live well.

“Along with the Eat Well, Live Well toolkit from the city, these are some incredible free resources to support healthy eating for residents of every age and stage in our community.”

Ms Bald is a Geelong-based nutritionist with a background in clinical nutrition, corporate health, sports management and health coaching.

She has two teenage boys so also understands the trials and tribulations of preparing food for multiple family members, with varying taste preferences.

“Often people know what they need to do to eat healthier, it’s how to do it and stay on track which is the tricky part,” Ms Bald said.

“Good nutrition starts with better habits. In this webinar you’ll learn how to form new habits and change negative habits, which will result in making healthy eating easier.

“The knowledge you learn will help you work on your individual goals, whatever they may be.”

All residents will be able to get access to the Eat Well, Live Well toolkit, developed with state government funding support, online from October 11 via the geelongaustralia website.

Hard copies of the toolkit will be available on request.

The Eat Well, Live Well Nutrition Habits Zoom webinar starts at 11am on October 11 and freeregistration is via the eventbrite website
