THE disability employment service at genU, MatchWorks, has taken another step forward in ensuring people are equipped to hit the workforce.
Last month, the organisation provided essential items to jobseekers in need this winter through its inaugural Winter Warm Community Care Packs Program.
Held as part of the latest All About You Day, the initiative provided more than 50 care packs to be distributed to MatchWorks participants.
The idea was an initiative of Deakin University placement students and included around 20 local businesses who donated food vouchers, blankets, jackets, beanies and personal care items.
Local donors included Geelong Foodshare, Macpac, Coles, Officeworks, Spotlight and from Member for Lara, Ella George who contributed the tote bags for participants.
Deakin University Social Work Placement student Curley Rukweza said she enjoyed organising the project.
“The most rewarding part of the program was the level of gratitude shown by the community.

“I feel good about the positive feedback we received from participants today, who really appreciated everything.
“Knowing I’ve been able to help people makes my whole placement worth it.”
For participants receiving the packs, it made them feel seen and appreciated with many receiving warm clothes and fresh fruit and vegetables.
MatchWorks general manager Sue Osman said the initiative was important for participants facing complex challenges.
“Some of the people we work with may be experiencing financial hardship or are at risk of homelessness.
“We help people overcome barriers and find sustainable employment, empowering them to build the best future they can.”
The All About You Days are designed to help participants become job-ready and give participants access to training and upskilling opportunities.
MatchWorks Employer Engagement Partners and Post placement support were also available to speak with participants.
