Surf Coast Kite Festival to take flight
The annual Surf Coast Kite Festival Kite Flying Day, on this Sunday (October 25), raises money for Jan Juc Preschool and is open for all to take part in.
Jan Juc Preschool’s philosophy is that children can learn and grow through a play-based curriculum which reflects the individual and unique nature of every child. The Kite Flying Day reflects this philosophy by creating an outdoor event that calls on adults to embrace their inner child and for children to enjoy the magic of kite flying.
This year’s kite celebration will be different from previous festivals, including last year’s, which drew crowds of people at Fisherman’s Beach Foreshore, along with various stallholders. But restrictions have not stopped this year’s event, with committee members encouraging residents to fly a kite in their backyards, or in a space which is COVID-safe.
Surf Coast Kite Festival committee member Emily Torney said despite restrictions the day was still a chance for people to connect with each other and the outdoors.
“It’s about encouraging people to grab their kites, go outside, and have some fun flying kites with their loved ones.”
People can share their experiences by taking photos and emailing them to [email protected] or post them to social media using the hashtag #kiteflyingday2020.
