THOUSANDS of residents and businesses in and around Lorne were without power following an electrical outage earlier today (Monday, September 22).

A Powercor spokesperson said the outage began at 12.15pm and 2,328 customers were off supply at the peak of the outage, but power had since been restored to all but 10 of these.

The spokesperson said Powercor had investigated the cause of the fault, which appeared to be a fuse on the high voltage network.

“We expect the remaining customers will be back online by 5pm

According to a photo posted to Facebook about an hour ago, part of this cause could be a tree that had fallen across powerlines on Erskine Falls Road.

Residents recalled discussions such as those in a Committee for Lorne column two years ago where supply vulnerabilities along lines via Erskine Falls were noted.
