A local team of truckies are gearing up to turn diesel into dollars for families facing the fight of their lives.

This Sunday, 22 February, Beckley Park will host the Camp Quality Geelong Convoy, where dozens of trucks will come together to raise funds for children impacted by cancer.

Tippin’ for a Livin’ are a group of nine local owner operator contractors from Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula who come together annually for the cause.

Alex Adams, owner of Nexus Excavations, is looking forward to continuing the success as he approaches his second year with the group.

“Nexus Excavations got involved through our love of trucks, community and giving back.

“What started as an appreciation for the event quickly turned into a real sense of pride in being part of something that brings so many people together for such an important cause.

This year, the group are dedicating their participation to a brave young boy named Harlyn, who is fighting the rare and aggressive cancer of neuroblastoma.

Harlyn’s mother, Ebony Hurford, expressed her appreciation for the team’s support as they navigate the unfortunate challenge.

“Throughout this journey, Camp Quality has brought laughter and moments of normality into the hospital for Harlyn, reminding him that he is still just a little boy.

“Having trucks in the Convoy dedicated to him means so much to our family and helps raise awareness for other children facing the same fight.”

The group’s fundraising goal is $20,000, but Adams believes they could exceed that number over the weekend.

Adams also explained that the family and local spirit on display adds a deeper touch to the fundraising efforts.

“What we love most about taking part is the atmosphere on the day – the streets of Geelong are lined from Beckley Park all the way to the overpasses on the highway up to Waurn Ponds.

“Seeing families, kids and businesses come together and knowing that simply doing what we enjoy helps raise funds and awareness for those kids and families who truly need it.

“It’s definitely a reminder that our industry can make a genuine and positive impact in the community.”
