Upgrades at North Geelong station complete
UPGRADES to improve passenger amenity at North Geelong railway station are now complete.
Victorian Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll is set to visit the station to inspect the works, which are part of a $24 million investment by the Victorian government to upgrade 16 key stations across metropolitan and regional Victoria in response to feedback from passengers.
Improvements to two platform shelters and platform seating, as well as toilet and waiting room refurbishments, are improving the comfort of passengers before they catch the train at North Geelong.
The addition of four accessible car parks with kerb ramps and shared areas is also improving access to the station.
The Victorian Government has also committed to further upgrades as part of a $157.8 million package of works announced in the 2022/23 State Budget.
Accessibility upgrades will take place across five stations including Lalor, Merri, Thornbury, Victoria Park and Warrnambool, with $21.9 million to deliver a range of accessibility improvements including tactile ground surface indicators.
“We’ve delivered upgrades to train stations across the state to provide more accessible and comfortable journeys for people who travel on the rail network,” Mr Carroll said.
“Every dollar spent as part of this extra investment will help to improve our public transport network and ensure we are continuing to provide services that passengers can rely on when they need it.”
