UPGRADES to the iconic Tea House building in the Geelong Botanic Gardens have it looking spick and span ahead of a busy spring season.

The historic building recently received a new covered verandah to provide customers at the Where You Meet (WYM) café with a comfortable, sheltered outdoor dining space.

The improvement was made possible through a $150,000 grant through the federal Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Corio federal member Richard Marles welcomed the new project.

“The Geelong Botanic Gardens is an historic part of our community, which is why it is fantastic to have partnered with the City of Greater Geelong to deliver a covered verandah for the iconic Tea House building,” he said.

Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan encouraged locals to come visit the WYM café and dine under the new verandah.

“The new verandah provides covered outdoor seating for customers, making for an even more enjoyable place to meet and relax while exploring the gardens,” he said.

The Geelong Botanic Gardens is open every day of the year from 8am to 5pm (8am to 7pm during daylight savings hours) and entry is free.
