THE home of Corio Little Athletics Club will be closed for upgrades later this month in anticipation of a busy summer season.

Works at Goldsworthy Reserve will take place between September 30 and October 4 and include repairs and replacement of the javelin run ups, edging, and repairing delamination and vandalism on affected areas of the running track.

The scheduled works have been established in conjunction with the Corio Little Athletics Club and will be fully funded by the City of Greater Geelong.

Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said the upgrades will have a lasting benefit for athletes across the region.

“These works will ensure the Corio Little Athletics Club and its members, as well as school kids across Geelong and the broader athletics community will have access to a facility that provides a safe and fit-for-purpose environment for years to come.

“It was imperative to commence the project at the end of September and by completing the works at this time it will also mean there is minimal impact to the remainder of the athletics season.”

Overflow tenants from Landy Field who have been using Goldsworthy Reserve, including athletes, coaches and clubs, have been advised of the forthcoming works and have made alternative arrangements for the closure period.
