Vision Radiology coming to Torquay
THE latest in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology is being installed in Torquay North.
Vision Radiology Torquay is expanding its services to include an MRI machine, which was lifted into place this week to be ready for patients on February 20.
An instrumental part of diagnostic practices, MRI scans are used by doctors to diagnose and monitor many medical conditions such as causes of back/spinal pain, cancer, stroke, trauma, and sporting injuries.
“MRI is an important medical diagnostic tool particularly useful for imaging soft tissues such as internal organs like the brain and spinal cord, ligaments and muscles, and other tissues that don’t show up well on X-ray or computed tomography (CT) examinations,” Vision Radiology lead MRI technician Mark Ward said.
As part of federal government reform to provide critical diagnostic imaging services to more regional and rural Australians (MM 2 to 7 areas), Vision Radiology will be able to provide Medicare-eligible MRI services from its Torquay, Kangaroo Flat and Shepparton clinics.
Vision Radiology has elected to bulk-bill these services for patients. Being a new service, they are able to accommodate patients in a timely manner, at a time when medical wait times are extensive. Vision Radiology wish to help reduce the pressure of out-of-pocket costs for their patients and improve disease detection and management for the people of the Surf Coast shire and Geelong community.
“With the arrival of our new MRI machine, this will enhance our ability diagnose conditions such as nerve compression in back and neck pain and assess causes of joint pains,” Dr Ben McDonald, the lead Torquay consultant radiologist, who also works at the Alfred Hospital as a musculoskeletal and spine subspecialist radiologist, said.
“This state-of-the-art equipment will enhance the comprehensive services we offer.
“This will be a significant boost to local health services and will give people in our community greater accessibility, speeding up the process to diagnose a problem.”
Vision Radiology is a comprehensive diagnostic medical imaging and interventional radiology service provider with multiple clinics in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
The organisation aims to provide accessible and compassionate care for its patients and referrers through subspeciality training radiologists and highly trained clinical and clerical staff, using the latest imaging technology and state-of-the-art equipment.
Services at Vision Radiology’s Torquay clinic include MRI, digital X-ray, ultrasound, CT, bone mineral densitometry (BMD), orthopantomogram (OPG), and interventional procedures.
