Firefighters are still trying to bring a hazardous chemical fire inside a factory in North Geelong under control, with the two substances involved yet unknown.

A community advice warning has been issued for the area around Roseneath Street.

A Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) spokesperson stated FRV responded to the incident at 8.31am today (Monday, March 2) after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.

Firefighters arrived at scene in under six minutes to find a chemical reaction within the 40m by 20m factory.

“FRV’s hazmat team is currently working with scientific advisors to determine the two chemicals involved,” the spokesperson said.

“All personnel on site have been accounted for and exited the premises.

“The incident has not yet been deemed under control and firefighters remain on scene.”

Hazardous fumes are being released from the fire, and nearby residents have been advised to close all external doors and windows around their home and turn off their air conditioning system.
