ONE of Armstrong Creek’s busiest roads has undergone a $3.2 million overhaul, with major renewal works on Warralily Boulevard now complete.

The City of Greater Geelong has finished resurfacing 4.1km of Warralily Boulevard between Barwon Heads Road and the Surf Coast Highway, along with a 500m section of Coastside Drive.

Funded through the federal government’s Roads to Recovery program, the works began in November and wrapped up last month, renewing about 61,000sqm of asphalt along a corridor that has experienced growing traffic volumes as Armstrong Creek continues to expand.

The upgrade included the use of recycled asphalt, glass and crumb rubber, which the city says made up about one-third of the materials used in the new road surface.

Federal member for Corangamite Libby Coker said the project reflected growing demand for infrastructure in the rapidly developing suburb.

“People across Armstrong Creek are calling out for better local roads and this upgrade responds to that advocacy,” she said.

The timing of the project was coordinated with the Barwon Heads Road duplication works, which are continuing nearby.

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the road’s role in linking key destinations across Armstrong Creek made the upgrade important for residents.

“This is a busy area connecting schools, shops and community facilities, so it’s important the road is as safe as possible for pedestrians and drivers,” he said.

“Thank you to the community for your patience and understanding during construction.”
