Warralily Community Champion Award recognises Oberon musicians
THE winners of the inaugural Warralily Community Champion Awards have been announced in a new collaboration between Oberon High School and the township.
Ahead of the relocation to Armstrong Creek, Year 12 student Kyah Ramaekers and year 9’s Mia Sugiyanto have been identified as the first community champions who have displayed significant commitment to their school and community.
Warralily Community Development Officer Nina Bendon said the inaugural award program is the perfect way to introduce Oberon staff, students and families to the community-focused lifestyle.
“Warralily has always encouraged the development of a strong community by creating opportunities for residents to get involved in projects, groups and activities.
“Having a sense of community unites us and provides opportunities to connect with people, reach our goals and make us feel safe and secure,” she said.
Oberon Music Coordinator Renae Barnett said celebrating community achievement through music was fitting.
“The Awards concept came about through our association with the Warralily Christmas Spectacular last year and we look forward to continuing our involvement with the Warralily community when we move to our new campus at Armstrong Creek in 2021,” she said.
Year 12 student Kyah Ramaekers received recognition for her six years as a positive contributor and leader in Oberon High School’s Performing Arts program.
“It has been pleasing to see Kyah grow in confidence over the years and channel her enthusiasm and talents into teaching and supporting junior members of the Oberon Drum Ensemble, as well as the arrangement of drum ensemble songs,” Ms Barnett said.
Emerging artist, Mia Sugiyanto is the junior recipient of the award, adding to her tally of accolades including the Most Outstanding Student of the Year Award and the Gold Service Award.
“Mia is a gifted student who is passionate about the joy and connection ‘the arts’ brings to the community.” Mr Barnett said.
Principal Tim McMahon said the contribution made by the girls is worthy of this acknowledgement.
“We wish Kyah all the best in the future and look forward to continuing to support Mia’s ambitions during her time at Oberon,” he said.
Oberon High School will commence learning next year at the new campus located in Armstrong Creeks’ Education Precinct alongside the State Primary School.
