Wolfmother, Spiderbait launch the Pro in style
Two of Australia’s top rockers got the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach off to the ultimate start on Tuesday.
Globally renowned acts Wolfmother and Spiderbait rocked out in the car park, headlining a free concert and setting the scene for a huge event ahead.
Wolfmother opened the show, quickly lifting the crowd with Woman and Joker and the Thief, as heads nodded and feet moved in unison.
Lead singer Andrew Stockdale said it was incredibly humbling to play at the Rip Curl Pro.

“It’s such an amazing location,” he said. “I had a swim before my set, it was amazing.
“We’ve played a lot of car parks but nothing like this at the beach at the top of a hill looking over this view.”
Spiderbait followed with a tight, energetic set, rolling through Black Betty, Buy Me a Pony and Shazam, keeping the crowd moving from start to finish.
Led by Janet English on vocals and drummer Kram, the alternative rockers showed exactly why they are regarded as one of Australia’s very best.

English said the Bells Beach backdrop only added to the experience.
“What a spot, this place is incredible,” she said of the venue.
“We are so thrilled people still want to see us.
“We are so keen to watch the surfing action. To see all the best surfers in the world locally is just incredible.”
Tuesday was a lay day for competition, with the World Surf League indicating the event could begin on Friday.
