Wombat’s Wish launches awareness campaign

A NEW initiative to highlight the services of a local bereavement charity has begun, following a recent Gala Night in Geelong.

Victorian charity Wombat’s Wish, based in Drysdale, has launched its ‘Five for Five’ campaign, asking charity supporters to start spreading the word of the services the charity provides.

Wombat’s Wish general manager Nikki Dunne said the initiative was announced at the charity’s biennial gala night at the beginning of March and is very straight-forward.

“The premise of Five for Five is very simple, take five minutes, and tell five people five things about our wonderful organisation and all the important work we do,” Ms Dunne said.

“Now we’re asking our social community to join in too.”

 

Facts about Wombat’s Wish includes it now has an expanded range of evidence based programs, it has one-to-one services available for parents and children, and there are a range of social activities hosted by the charity throughout the year.

Ms Dunne said the advocacy of charity supporters and sponsors, coupled with the organisation’s ambassadors, has resulted in hundreds of social media posts highlighting the work Wombat’s Wish provides.

“I can’t talk specifically about our ambassadors’ reach but between the amount of shares I’ve received from my initial post and the shares we’ve had from the Wombat’s Wish post, there have been over 200 reshares of our initiative to this point.

“Freeman’s Favour as we’re calling it, is getting the word out there that we are here and ready to assist wherever we can, because it’s actually surprising how many people don’t know about us in our own community.

“It’s not something you come across very often, a child with a parent who has passed away, but the goal for us is to get in the back of our community’s minds, so should something happen, they know to seek assistance from us.”
