CHARTERED Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) has named Geelong’s Tom Simic as one of its 2025 Young CA award winners. As founder of Simic Financial, the young businessman was selected by CA ANZ in acknowledgement of his contributions to the accounting profession and business in Australia.

Mr Simic said it was an exciting win and one that is an acknowledgement of a lot of persistence.

“I work pretty hard, I’m only 31 and I’ve got six university degrees and I tend to do things a bit over and above. This has been a personal recognition of effort, because there’s really no awards in accounting…so it’s nice to get some recognition that I’m actually doing well on this journey and the effort I’ve been putting in is getting rewarded.”

In the last two years, Mr Simic has gone out on his own and started his own virtual CFO accounting firm and has been heavily involved with volunteer programs through CA ANZ.

Through his volunteering, the young accountant speaks in front of high school students about accounting and businesses and his career pathways, an experience he believes made him stand out for the award.

“Not only am I doing that, but I’m also trying quite hard to further the profession and further the way accounting is done. What Australian businesses and Geelong businesses really need is someone to handhold them and let them know what their next steps are and how they can grow faster.”

His focus on locals is strong, with a mission for people in Geelong to feel like they don’t need to go to Melbourne or Sydney to scale up their business.

“I want people to feel like they have the support here and to keep those businesses here, it’s a big part of what we’re doing.”
