THE newly elected 2024 Youth Council is quickly making their mark by contributing feedback to the co-design process of the Geelong Youth Hub.

The youth leaders will hold information sessions in February and March to help shape solutions which resonate with the collective needs and aspirations of the community.

The Geelong Youth Hub pilot will be based out of the Busport building in central Geelong and is due for completion in January 2025.

The project has been made possible by $400,000 of funding from the Victorian Government’s Youth Hubs grant program.

Junior mayor Hteemoo Yohellaymusaw said all the new youth councillors were excited to contribute to the Geelong Youth Hub project.

“We want to make sure that the voices of other young people are heard, and we’re really open to taking on feedback and ideas from across the community.”

Deputy mayor Anthony Aitken said he was excited young people were helping to shape their future.

“The insights and perspectives from young people across the region will help define the space, and the type of activities, programs, and services that will be offered.”

“We want to encourage our young people to have an influence on the projects and decisions that will impact them and their peers.”

The upcoming information sessions will be held at the future Geelong Youth Hub site (corner Gheringhap Street and Transit Place) on February 19 from 4.30-6pm and March 13 from 4.30pm-6pm.
