THE countdown to Christmas has begun, and markets across Geelong are preparing to welcome crowds looking for fresh gift ideas.

With events running day and night across the city, there are plenty of opportunities to shop local and enjoy the atmosphere.

Here’s a guide to what’s on offer and where to find it.

 

Piccadilly Christmas Market, Geelong

More than 100 stalls will fill the indoor space at Deakin’s waterfront campus, making it one of the region’s biggest Christmas shopping events. Expect high-quality handmade gifts, food trucks in the courtyard and bar service inside. A popular annual fixture on the festive calendar. Saturday, December 14, 10am–3pm.

Rutland Makers Market, Newtown

Held at the creative precinct on Rutland Street, this market brings together local artists, designers and small-batch makers in a friendly, community-focused setting. A great spot for thoughtful, handmade gift shopping with plenty of variety. Friday, December 5, 5pm–8pm and Saturday, December 6, 10am–2pm.

 

Geelong Ceramics Market, Geelong

Little Creatures’ Laneway and Furphy Hall will host 27 ceramic artists from across the region, with everything from functional everyday pieces to sculptural works. Visitors can browse, meet the makers and take home something unique. 6–7 December, 11am–4pm daily.

 

Barwon Edge Christmas Twilight Market, Newtown

This riverside market offers a relaxed evening atmosphere with artisan stalls, fresh produce and plenty of room to wander. A good option for families or early Christmas catch-ups with friends. Saturday, December 6, 4pm–8pm.

Warralily Twilight Food & Makers Festival, Armstrong Creek

The Christmas edition of this popular night market brings food trucks, produce, artisan stalls, live music to Mirameena Park. A relaxed community evening with plenty to explore. Finish with an outdoor movie after dark. Saturday, November 29, 4pm–8.30pm.

 

Blackman’s Geelong Festive Market, Grovedale

Blackman’s Brewery will open its beer garden for a festive twilight market featuring local makers, food stalls, wood-fired pizza and seasonal drinks. A casual way to shop for handmade gifts while enjoying the atmosphere of the brewery. Saturday, November 29, from 4pm.
