River’s Gift Charity Home to go on sale

October 6, 2023 BY

The house is the culmination of months of dedicated work and generous support of suppliers and trades.

The River’s Gift Charity Home has been completed, and the community will get their first chance to have a look inside tomorrow (Saturday, October 7).

Built by Geelong Homes, the beautiful three-bedroom Hampton-inspired home in Mount Duneed is the culmination of months of dedicated work and generous support of suppliers and trades.

Geelong Homes, the Draper family (Yaringa Developments) and Sam Parsons at Avenue Five Real Estate have pulled together to bring this project in the Yaringa estate to life, with all profitable proceeds being donated to River’s Gift for the purpose of funding world-leading genetic SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) research at the University of South Australia.

Built by Geelong Homes, the beautiful three-bedroom Hampton-inspired River’s Gift Charity Home is located in Mount Duneed.

River’s Gift was formed by Alexandra Hamilton and Karl Waddell, following the sudden and unexpected death of their first child, River, in November 2011.

Following forensic investigation and autopsy, River’s death was diagnosed as a SIDS death, with no determinable cause found.

Living in Torquay at the time, Alex and Karl’s lives were turned upside down following the loss of their four-month-old healthy baby boy, and they searched for answers and understanding around their lived experience of heartbreak and tragedy.

Alex and Karl could see SIDS had largely fallen off the awareness radar, and that research was not being funded or performed in Australia to the same extent that it was in the 1990s, when Red Nose Day was a prominent day on the charitable calendar.

All profitable proceeds forom the sale of the home will go towards world-leading genetic SIDS research.

In honour of their little boy, the pair felt a burning desire to be the drivers of reigniting SIDS research funding and being the lived experience voices for the little ones who are still losing their lives so suddenly and unexpectedly, far too soon.

In Australia alone, about 100 babies die suddenly and unexpectedly in sleep each year.

The launch of the four-week sales campaign for the River’s Gift Charity Home at 17 Gymea Street, Mount Duneed will take place between 11.30am-1.30pm.

The Mik Maks will perform live music for the children, and coffee and sausages will be on offer.
