The big red shed

April 6, 2023 BY

What is generally known as the big red shed, formally Ray’s Outdoors at 340-344 Melbourne Road, North Geelong, is close to finding a new owner with agents presently reviewing offers.

The building has remained inactive since Super Retail Group acquired Ray’s Outdoors in 2010, after which Ray’s Outdoors founder Ray Frost sold the site in 2015.

For sale through Gartland Commercial and GormanKelly, the site of about 5,564 sqm is one of North Geelong’s most prominent corner sites and is being marketed for renovation or redevelopment.

Gartland Commercial director Michael De Stefano said that they have shortlisted a number of potential buyers with the successful purchaser to be announced later this week.

Offered with vacant possession and combined significant frontages of 149.3 meters the key highlights of this opportunity include existing buildings of approximately 3,750sqm plus mezzanine showroom and offices of around 1,000sqm.

The property comes with an approved permit for extensive refurbishment use as showroom and workshop.

Agents describe this as the best site and only opportunity to build new showrooms on the Princes Highway in Geelong.

With loading access, on-site parking and excellent exposure surrounded by local and national occupants including Sydney Tools, Routleys Bakery (Est 1947), Super Cheap Auto, Beaumont Tiles, Kennards, Beacon Lighting, Tyrepower, Australia Post and many more.

The property is also about 500 metres from Corio Quay, the new home of Spirit of Tasmania.
