Teaching globally recognised soccer training
Meet Malvin; a young soccer talent who could be Coerver Coaching’s most valuable player.
The nine-year-old is about to participate in his 20th school holiday program, run by the local operators of the globally recognised soccer skills training group.
His milestone comes as Coerver’s Surf Coast and Geelong business approaches its third birthday and as its global parent marks its 40th anniversary.
Malvin was one of the first children to sign up for training when former Socceroo and Olympian, Adrian Leijer, launched Coerver in Torquay in 2021.
Malvin said he loves to train twice a week during the school terms but doesn’t like hanging up his boots when the holidays roll around.
“I love having my friends there and I love the game and passing,” he said.
Malvin’s father, Matt Kelly, said he was impressed local children could access a globally recognised soccer skills program.
“I was amazed they had this sort of training in Torquay.
“They run the programs methodically, but they aren’t regimented, and all the kids are engaged … It’s like game play and competing but in a fun way.”
Mr Leijer said locals and holiday makers continued to embrace Coerver’s weekly and holiday programs with more than 1,500 kids participating since the local operations began.
“We’ve been running the school holiday programs for almost three years now and kids of all ages and abilities keep coming back, which is great to see,” he said.
“As well as seeing their skills develop, I get to see them build their confidence and love of the game.”
Established in 1984 by Dutch football manager Weil Coerver, the revolutionary classes have become recognised as the world’s premier soccer skills teaching method.
Coerver runs programs for players, coaches, clubs and schools in more than 53 countries with 1.5 million participants.
“Coerver celebrates its 40-year anniversary this year and that longevity underscores how it has influenced the way football is taught and played right around the world,” Mr Leijer said.
“The game is becoming faster and more technical, and the Coerver method teaches the skills required for the modern game.”
