GEELONG will host Greater Western Sydney in a crucial AFLW clash tomorrow (Saturday, October 11) afternoon, with a win the only option to avoid a second consecutive season outside the eight.

The Cats went down to Carlton at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday, making it two straight losses after a three-game winning streak. They now sit 10th and are two games behind eighth-placed St Kilda, with just four rounds to play.

Meanwhile, the Giants have also lost their past two matches after going down to the Saints by 14 points in Round 8.

For Geelong, the 18-point losing margin on the weekend could have been worse, with the Blues kicking 13 behinds in the match; six alone in the first quarter.

Territory was the killer, with Carlton managing 21 more inside-50s.

Geelong’s Amy McDonald stood tall in the loss and looked to be back at her damaging best, posting 25 touches, seven tackles and six clearances.

The Cats defence will also need to stand up against GWS after allowing at least six goals per game in their past three matches.

Giants midfielders Kaitlyn Srhoj and Rebecca Beeson will be important in their side’s pursuit of overcoming Geelong, with the duo gathering a combined 50 disposals and 18 tackles on the weekend.

The match will begin at GMHBA Stadium tomorrow at at 3.05pm.
