AFTER an eventful ultimate round of the home and away season, the top five of the GDFL seniors are locked in for the first finals at St Albans Reserve this weekend.

East Geelong secured the minor premiership by percentage over Belmont, after winning their last four games and 12 of their last 14. They now have this weekend off and will await the results of the first round of finals.

Belmont and North Geelong will face off tomorrow’s (Saturday, August 30) First Qualifying Final, with the winner to take on the Eagles next weekend for a spot in the grand final.

The Lions come in having won their past three home and away matches, while the Magpies have won three of their past four.

The two sides have only played each other once this season, with the Lions winning by 13 points at Winter Reserve.

On Sunday, Anakie will take on Bell Post Hill in an Elimination Final. The winner will play the loser of the Lions and Magpies matchup.

It will be a historic day for the Roos, who are playing beyond the home and away season for the first time since 1998. They come into the game with five wins on the trot and plenty of momentum.

Meanwhile, the Panthers made a late season surge to enter the top five and were jumped by the Roos in the last round after an upset loss to Corio.

The two previously faced off in Round 9, where Anakie held off a last quarter run by the Panthers to win by 26 points. Either the dream run will continue for the Roos, or Bell Post Hill will spoil the story.
