Bones MMA duo ready to rock for professional debut

TWO up and coming fighters from Bones MMA are ready to make their mark on Australia’s Muay Thai scene when they make their professional debut on November 18.

18-year-old Tom ‘Maxibon’ Murphy and 21-year-old Jaiven Callender will feature on the stacked Roots: Welcome to Jamrock card at the Melbourne Pavilion in Kensington, Melbourne.

Murphy will be fighting hot prospect Dan Arrayo from Canberra, while Callendar will face off against English man Jack Windsor, who is fighting out of Supafight Gym in St Kilda.

Murphy has had seven amateur fights, including one in Thailand when he was on a training camp with Bones MMA owner Matt Williams.

He said he was thoroughly looking forward to his first fight.

“I’ve had two previous fully unpadded fights, so I’m not super fussed about that aspect and am looking forward to the challenge.

“We’ve been working on some really great things going into it.

I’ll be going into it with a gameplan and not for just a brawl.

“It’s not just about punching people’s heads in, its discipline, it’s respect and it’s about heart, which I really like.

“This sport is my everything, it’s all that goes through my head.”

Callender, who moved to Bones MMA from Spartans MMA in Warrnambool in 2022, said his training in Torquay had prepared him well for a strong fight on November 18.

“I’ve been putting in a lot of hard work over the last six months, so I’m really looking forward to it.

“I just love it here at Bones, it’s an unreal place to train.

“There weren’t many people to train with down in Warrnambool, so I’ve just been loving being around a lot of like-minded individuals and great people.

“Being technical is something I really want to zero in on for this fight. It’s been a big part of the game plan in preparing for this one both in and out of the gym.”

Joining the local pair on the card is famous Thai fighter Teerapat Mahamongkol Jomtong, who is currently training at Bones MMA in Torquay.

Mahamonghol is a One Championship, RWS and Channel 7 Stadium title holder and has had 134 professional fights, 94 of those wins.

It is the first time overseas for the 24-year-old, and therefore his first international fight.

Bones MMA has hired an entire bus to ferry all its supports to and from the event and have sold over 90 tickets.
