Geelong forward Shannon Neale has locked in his long term future, signing a two year contract extension that will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2030.

The 22-year-old said the decision to remain in the Hoops was straightforward, crediting the club’s strong culture and support network as key factors behind his commitment.

“It was a pretty easy decision in the end.”

“Geelong has been a second home for me… I’ve really settled in and I’m really enjoying my time here.”

Originally from Western Australia, Neale said the club’s flexibility and people-first approach made the transition away from home far easier, particularly early in his career.

“They work with you rather than holding you to you’re an employee at this club… that’s something that’s really stood out.”

Now entering a more established phase of his career, Neale is embracing a growing leadership role within the Cats’ forward line, building chemistry with key teammates and developing confidence in his voice on field.

“I want to be a leader in the forward line… it’s just time with each other which has been really good.”

After a breakout 2024 season, Neale reflected on his journey with pride, having worked patiently for consistent AFL opportunities.

“I’m actually really proud of myself… but I’ve still got a long way to go.”

Family remains a driving force behind his progress, with his mother’s emotional reaction to the contract extension highlighting the significance of the milestone.

“She’s just given me messages… ‘I’m so proud of you’.”

Looking ahead, Neale is focused on continued improvement, particularly his physical presence in contests as he aims to match the league’s best key forwards.

“I have aspirations to be the best there is… that aerial presence and being a bit more physical.”

With strong belief from the club and a clear development path, Neale’s extension reinforces Geelong’s investment in its next generation of talent.
