Cats hope to rebound at home against Power

FOR the first time in the 2024 AFL season, Geelong will look to bounce back from defeat in its Round 9 meeting with Port Adelaide tonight.

The Geelong crowd will be a welcome sight for the Cats, having not played at GMHBA Stadium since April 14’s 75-point win against North Melbourne.

The Cats, now 7-1 and behind only the Sydney Swans on percentage, are eager to avoid back-to-back losses following an eight-point loss to Melbourne.

Cats head coach Chris Scott said there were chances to win last week’s contest but he felt optimistic about his side heading into Round 9.

“My initial instinct is to come away from the game that I’m not too flat with it, I don’t like losing, but I think we came away with it thinking a few finishing touches, and the game could have come away looking a lot different.

“We found it interesting because we thought we were off early on, the real positive we take from the game is we were off, and we had a chance to win.

“Our guys adapted as the game went on, we clearly handballed the ball too much, but the bottom line is we had our chances to win the game.”

Port Adelaide and Torquay junior Travis Boak will also be on the rebound, following his team’s disappointing 30-point loss to Adelaide in last week’s Showdown.

Cats winger Max Holmes also took a positive approach following last week’s defeat.

“I keep saying the media had us at 2-6 right now, so 7-1 will do,” Holmes said.

“We’re all really confident going into next week, back at the home track, we’re all very excited.

“We’re not worried whatsoever.”
