GEELONG’S Premier Women have made it five straight wins after defeating Melbourne in a T20 clash on Saturday.

With the competition returning to the short format, the Cats were sent in to bat first at Beaumaris Secondary College.

An evenly spread scorecard saw Geelong finish the innings at 6/128. Meika King top-scored with an unbeaten 25, while three other batters chipped in with at least 20 runs.

The collective effort continued with the ball, as the Cats defended their total and restricted Melbourne to 8/111 from their 20 overs.

Stephanie Townsend, Annabelle Glossop and skipper Jess Field each claimed two wickets, while Aanliya Cheeran added one. The opening wicket came via a run out from Meika King and wicketkeeper Mia Rogers.

The win lifts Geelong to fourth place on the T20 ladder, with two matches remaining before the Christmas break, against Dandenong and Carlton, respectively.

Geelong’s Seconds and Thirds have already wrapped up for the year and sit third and second on their ladders. Both sides will return in the new year, facing Melbourne on January 10.
