Community Bank Cup a success

THE Community Bank Surf Coast hosted more than 24 men and women for their annual Aireys Inlet & District Tennis Club Community Bank Cup at the Aireys Inlet Tennis Courts.

After three years of pandemic interruptions, the tournament began on Sunday with players putting on their best serves and top spin hits to take the bragging rights in the round robin mixed teams format.

Players of all abilities got a chance to have a hit during the event, and according to the Community Bank Surf Coast, there were many new faces and plenty of good tennis players in that mix.

“After COVID and washouts, it was such an amazing day and great to see so many new faces out and about enjoying a hit of tennis in a fun and inclusive setting,” Community Bank Surf Coast marketing co-ordinator and Aireys Inlet and District Tennis Club president Kelly Turner said.

“A massive thanks to everyone who turned up in the perfect weather, it was a great day had by all, and congratulations to the 24 men and women who entered and played some amazing tennis on the day .”

Coming out on top with the Community Bank Cup honours were Liz Flower in the women’s section and John Mitzopolous in the men’s division.

Prizes were kindly donated by Tennis Victoria, and a gorgeous afternoon tea was also presented by Aireys Inlet café Onda Foodhouse to fill players’ bellies after the tournament.

The Aireys Inlet Tennis Club continues to look for new members and extends the opportunity for any competition or social members to come down and have a hit at 10am each Sunday.

The next club AGM is in November and new members are most welcomed to attend.
