TWO Bellarine locals have earned their place in the Bells Beach Longboard Classic Word Tour event in July after taking home state titles at last weekend’s second round of the Victorian Longboard Titles.

Barwon Heads’ Ben Considine and Point Lonsdale’s Bea Conroy did enough in the round to secure round wins and the right to compete at Bells Beach in two months’ time.

Considine used the home break to his advantage, locking in two strong scores with a 9.37 and a 9.13 for an 18.50 heat total. “I’m beyond stoked with the result. Since last year I’ve put some new things in place training wise, have been working really hard on my surfing and mental approach and I feel it’s really paying off,” he said.

“This event was the best and most consistent I’ve felt approaching each heat, so I feel great that I’ve been able to land this result and consolidate the place on the first world tour stop here at Bells. “I’m super-excited to compete on the world stage again this year, I feel my competitive game has grown leaps and bounds since this time last year, so can’t wait to get into it and hopefully display a great result on my home turf – I’m ready to go.”

Bea Conroy will join Considine at this year’s Bells Beach Longboard Classic World Tour event.

Conroy carried over her strong results from Round 1, finishing the Round 2 final with a heat total of 16.17, ahead of Asha Reaves’ 12.90 points.

“I am pretty happy to say I’ve come back and got the title this year,” Conroy said.

“Surfing at my favourite spot with the world’s best is going to be something pretty special. It’s an amazing opportunity that I will make the most of.”

Conroy and Considine will compete at the Bells Beach Longboard Classic from July 18-21.
