Ed Curnow signs on as Lorne coach
FORMER AFL clubman Ed Curnow has signed on as the new senior coach for the Lorne Football Club.
Curnow, who grew up playing footy on the Surf Coast and now lives in Bells Beach, will coach the Dolphins in the Colac and District Football League in 2024 and 2025.
Speaking exclusively to this newspaper earlier today (Saturday, October 21), Curnow said he jumped at the chance to coach a local club.
“My wife Emily and I love the community and the people in Lorne so I’m really excited at the opportunity to coach, and to help the footy and netball club, spend time in the community and with all the players that are coming through the ranks.”
Curnow retired from the AFL at the end of this year’s AFL season after 221 games with the Blues.
“I was planning on a break but when I got towards the end, I thought it would be great to be involved at some level, and if that could be on the Surf Coast where we live, and where our kids are growing up, that would be extra-special.”
Lorne president Carly Enticott welcomed Curnow’s appointment.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Ed on board at Lorne Football Netball Club,” she said.
“Seeing his passion for country football and wanting to get involved at grass roots is a fantastic for our club and wider community to grow and develop.
“The town is buzzing as word spreads and we know how incredible it will be to have Ed playing and coaching next season.
“We welcome Ed, Emily and family to the club and look forward to a great preseason as we launch into 2024.“
