Enright’s legacy enshrined as a Cats Legend

THREE-time premiership player Corey Enright has been named the 27th Legend in Geelong Cats history after he was bestowed the club’s highest honour last night (Friday, July 8) at GMHBA Stadium.

Enright is a six-time All-Australian (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2016) as well as a two-time club best and fairest winner in premiership years (2009 and 2011) – a feat that only Kevin Bartlett, Jason Dunstall, Simon Black, Josh Gibson, Michael Voss and Gary Ablett Jr have been able to do in VFL/AFL history.

Born in the rural South Australian town of Kimba and drafted in 1999 at pick 47, Enright would go on to become one of Geelong’s most decorated players.

He began his Cats career in 2001, before he broke Ian Nankervis’ club record of 325 games before retiring in 2016 after 332 appearances.

Cam Guthrie and Mark Blicavs etched their names in the Cats’ ledger too, receiving Life Memberships at the Club, the first time since Malcolm Blight, Colin Carter and James Rahilly were inducted in 2018.

Since debuting in 2011, Guthrie has pulled on the hoops 221 times, with his breakout season in 2020 landing him his first Carji Greeves Medal and All-Australian blazer.

Blicavs also joined a select group of Cats when he became a multiple Carji Greeves Medallist in 2015 and 2018.

Bob Gartland was honoured as the 2022 recipient of the R.J. Hickey Award to conclude last night’s proceedings.

Gartland’s contribution to the Geelong Football Club and broader community has been significant.

He joined Geelong’s board in 2007 and was elected as club vice-president in 2014, and made a significant impact both on and off the field.
