Geelong Falcons swoop on Tigers pair

February 20, 2020 BY

A PAIR of Torquay Football Club’s junior female players have made the Geelong Falcons squad for the coming NAB League season.

Renee Tierney and Ava McKeegan have both been selected to play with the 2018 premiers, with Tierney also named as one of the team’s vice-captains.

The Geelong Falcons had a strong 2019 season, finishing second on the ladder before being beaten by Calder Cannons in the play-off final.

Tiernay and McKeegan will also be joined in the squad by Bellarine footballers Taylah Hassett, Tess Craven from Drysdale and Grace Cotter from Barwon Heads.

Having fielded a senior women’s side for the first-time last year, Torquay Football Club now has a more clearly defined pathway for junior female footballers who want to continue playing football at the club.

Tigers coach Tim Humphries said after a great response to the team’s inaugural season, the senior team was in a good position for this year.

“I couldn’t be happier with pre-season and healthy player numbers showing a level of commitment and passion that positions the Tigers for another step forward in season 2020.”

The club is still happy to welcome any newcomers, regardless of experience or ability.

They are also looking for support staff to help accommodate the growth of women’s football.

These can vary from administrative roles to people who act as runners on game day. The Tigers are particularly eager to recruit a football operations director.
