THE cat’s out of the bag: for the first time Geelong will host professional mixed martial arts inside the cage, a landmark moment for combat sports across the region.
Eternal MMA’s arrival on 13 June at Geelong Arena marks more than just a fight night.
It signals the introduction of Oceania’s premier MMA promotion to a region rich in emerging talent, giving local fighters a rare opportunity to compete on a major stage close to home.
Founded in 2012 on the Gold Coast, Eternal MMA has established itself as a proving ground for fighters on the rise.
With a track record that includes UFC names such as Jack Della Maddalena, Casey O’Neill and Steven Erceg, the promotion has become a genuine pipeline to the sport’s highest level.

Now, that pathway runs directly down the B100 to Geelong.
Eternal promoter Cam O’Neill said the move is an important step.
“We chose Geelong very deliberately. It’s a city with a proud sporting history and passionate fans, and a culture that really values tough, competitive sport,” he said.
For athletes across the Surf Coast, opportunities like this are critical. The leap from regional shows to elite competition is often the hardest transition, and having a promotion of this calibre within reach provides a platform to test, develop and be seen.
O’Neill said Eternal’s role in developing future UFC talent is well established.
“We’ve built a reputation as a pathway to the world stage, and fighters like Jack Jenkins and Jack Della Maddalena show what’s possible. We want to create more of those opportunities for Victorian athletes,” he said.

Local fighters are also set to feature, including Sam Marles and Torquay’s Dave Mirabelli, who are great examples of the kind of homegrown talent fans can expect to see on the card.
Eternal MMA, which has held 107 shows, offers a glimpse of what’s next: the fighters who will go on to bigger stages, building records and reputations before breaking through internationally.
Geelong Arena, traditionally home to basketball and major events, will transform into a fight venue for the night, adding another dimension to the city’s sporting landscape.
With early bird tickets already selling fast and major bouts still to be announced, anticipation is building.
For one night in June, the road to the UFC runs from Torquay to Geelong – and beyond.
