GEELONG will have a free live site for fans to watch the Socceroos’ round of 16 World Cup clash with Argentina on Sunday morning.

The City of Greater Geelong will bring a big screen to Rippleside Park to broadcast the SBS coverage of the match from 5.30am, ahead of a 6am kick-off.

Community members are welcome to bring their own food, non-alcoholic drinks, folding chairs and picnic blankets for the event.

The city will also switch it catenary lights at Moorabool and Malop streets to green and gold in support of the national team.

Mayor Trent Sullivan said he was looking forward to local fans supporting the team together.

“The Australian team has done our country proud with a pair of brilliant wins to reach the last 16 of the tournament,” Mayor Sullivan said.

“The Geelong community has been swept up in the excitement and is looking forward to Sunday morning.

“We’d love to see large groups of families and friends decked out in green and gold at Rippleside, cheering the Socceroos to an upset victory over Argentina.”
