THE Melbourne Renegades will be coming down the highway to Geelong during the coming Big Bash League (BBL) season, with GMHBA Stadium to host two games early next year.

The T20 matches in Geelong, part of the fixture revealed last week, are delivered with the support of the Victorian Government as part of broader support for regional tourism on the Bellarine Peninsula and providing an economic boost to the Geelong region.

The Renegades, captained by Colac’s Aaron Finch, will play both the Brisbane Heat on January 6, and the Sydney Sixers on January 11, at GMHBA Stadium.

The club will start BBL11 on December 7 at Marvel Stadium – the first time the Renegades have done so since their title-winning BBL08 season.

Incoming Melbourne Renegades general manager James Rosengarten said the club was looking forward to a full schedule at Marvel Stadium and returning to Geelong.

“I’d like to thank the respective management of Marvel Stadium and GMHBA Stadium for their ongoing commitment to the Melbourne Renegades.

“We’re really excited about the potential in this season – hopefully playing in front of big crowds.

“Geelong is central to our ongoing planning – our data tells us Geelong is a strong network of Renegades support and we want to make the most of that.

“We think having two games in January just after New Year is a great fit for us in attracting cricket fans and holidaymakers alike.”

The news follows the recent appointment of David Saker as the club’s BBL head coach.

BBL ticket sale dates will be confirmed soon.
