AFL Barwon will not have the 2023 Geelong Football Netball League’s (FNL) fixture ready until early 2023.

Following unveilings of fixtures for both the Bellarine FNL and Colac FNL 2023 competitions, Geelong’s football and netball associations will have to wait a little longer to see how their seasons will shape out.

“Work has commenced on this fixture; however, several scheduling issues are yet to be resolved and require further consideration,” commercial partnerships manager Sean Atkinson said.

“With the AFL Barwon office closing on December 21 and reopening on the 11th of January, it is envisaged that the Geelong FNL fixture will be released prior to the end of January.”

It had already been announced that Round 1 of the GFNL season would take place on April 15, a fortnight later than the Bellarine competition.

Colac ended its Geelong Netball League drought in 2022.

The GFNL season structure will also accommodate for two league-wide byes, which will take place on May 27 and July 1.

In contrast to the 2022 Grand Final Day announcements made by AFL during the season, the GFNL Grand Final for both competitions is already confirmed for September 23.
