GEELONG Cats star Tom Hawkins capped off his 350th game in style, doing what he’s known best for – kicking goals.

The hulking key forward played his milestone match on Easter Monday against Hawthorn, and had a key role in the Cats’ 36-point win.

Geelong was phenomenal in front of goal, finishing the contest with 17.4 (106) to down the Hawks 10.10 (70), with Hawkins kicking a game-high four goals alongside fellow forward and 50-gamer Ollie Henry.

It was an emotional day for Hawkins, running out onto the MCG with his three children, as well as inviting friends and family to the game from his home town of Finley to watch the contest, played in wety conditions.

“It was a huge occasion for myself, family and friends,” Hawkins said post-game.

“It was a wonderful day, great build-up, a lot spoken about me and my journey. I don’t often love it, but I have really tried to enjoy the week as much as possible. It’s been great.”

Despite the drizzly conditions and a forced stoppage due to lightning within 10km of the ground, the Cats had a six per cent advantage when it came to efficiency inside 50.

The Cats never conceded the lead across all four quarters.

“It was one of those games, particularly because it was wet, early on there was a bit of a shower which made the ball and ground slippery, making it a bit of a tight one early,” Hawkins said.

“We had contributors all over the ground, but it was one of those games where there were just big moments, and we had some big moments, some contests which were created, brought the ball to ground, which allowed us to kick goals.

“Sam De Koning, Jack Henry was great, and Tom Stewart had one of those moments as well.”

The Cats start 2024 3-0 with wins over St Kilda, Adelaide, and Hawthorn.

Geelong faces Western Bulldogs tomorrow (Saturday, April 6) at Adelaide Oval as part of Gather Round.
