BARWON Heads have held off Jan Juc to remain undefeated after six rounds of the BPCA1 thanks to a commanding two-day effort with both bat and ball.
Following an impressive score of 9/291 made on day one, Heads bowlers Darcy Hewitt and Sema Kamea skittled the Sharks’ top order to restrict them to 8/144 after 75 overs.
Jan Juc captain Nick Hyden made an unbeaten 79, while Hewitt went on to take four wickets for Barwon Heads. The Sharks now drop to 2-3 on the season.
Queenscliff have successfully defended their total of 175 to hand Anglesea their second loss and restrict them to their lowest total with the bat this season.
Four wickets from both Jordan Monahan and Patrick Mileto led an attack in the second innings that toppled the Roos for just 97 runs. Queenscliff have salvaged an 0-3 start to the year to jump into fourth spot on the ladder just under halfway through the season.
Reigning premiers Armstrong Creek have snuck back into the top two after chasing down Drysdale’s 171 with seven wickets in hand.
Titans batters Adam Trevean (58 runs) and Ben Norgrove (62 not out) proved too strong for the Hawks, who overcame the total in 67 overs.
Barrabool have sent Inverleigh to the bottom of the ladder after chasing down the Kookaburras’ 200 runs in a tight finish.
An admirable 78 not out from Michael Kelson was the catalyst in the win, with the Bulls skipper coming in at sixth and making the winning runs in the 74th over.
A grand final rematch headlines day one of round seven this weekend, with Armstrong Creek to host Barwon Heads. Elsewhere, Jan Juc faces Drysdale, Anglesea faces Inverleigh and Barrabool faces Queenscliff.
In the BPCA2, Winchelsea will host Ocean Grove, Newcomb will host St Leonards, Wallington will host Ocean Grove and Portarlington will host Surf Coast.
