Holmes wins second Carji Greaves Medal

GEELONG Cats midfielder Max Holmes has been awarded his second straight Carji Greaves Medal as the club’s Best and Fairest player.

Holmes polled 175 votes to take out the top honour last night (Thursday, October 2) at Crown Melbourne.

Gun recruit Bailey Smith finished runner up (155 votes), while Jeremy Cameron (145) rounded out the top three.

Midfielder Tom Atkins and utility Mark Blicavs completed the top five placings with 141 and 122 votes respectively.

Holmes lined up out on the field in every game for the Cats in the 2025 season, polling votes in all games.

He was judged the Cats best player in five of those matches, including last fortnight’s AFL Grand Final against Brisbane.

The 23-year-old averaged a career high 26.9 disposals per game and ranked first across the AFL in inside 50s and second in metres gained.

Holmes fantastic campaign was recognised ahead of the AFL Awards last month, in which he earned a spot in the 44-man All Australian squad.

In his first season in the Hoops, Bailey Smith was a fantastic addition to the Cats engine room.

Smith played 23 games, leading the AFL in average disposals per game (31.3), while also averaging career highs of his own in clearances and tackles.

2022 Carji Greaves Medal winner Jeremy Cameron enjoyed a career best season in front of goals, kicking 88 goals on his way to his second Coleman Medal.

He was awarded with his fifth All Australian blazer and was named captain of the 2025 team.

In other awards presented on the night, Tom Atkins and Mark Blicavs were joint recipients of the Tom Harley Best Club Person Award.

This year marked Atkins’ fourth consecutive best club person win, while Blicavs won the honour for a second time.

Connor O’Sullivan was named Best Young Player, while Shaun Mannagh was awarded the club’s AFL Carter Family Community Champion for his outstanding commitment to the community.
