Joeys’ lunch to celebrate AFL Grand Final
THE St Joseph’s Football Netball Club is building excitement for the AFL Grand Final as it gears up to host their annual grand final lunch in September.
Held each year for the past 20 years, the event is a chance for people to come together and celebrate the culmination of the AFL season.
St Joseph’s Football Netball Club fundraising committee member John Watts said it was always a fun day and popular with the community.
“Every year we have different special guests, normally around the footy focus and with an emphasis on the grand final.”
This year’s event will feature former Geelong premiership player and Indigenous All Stars member Matt Stokes.
“We’re going to have a chat to him and talk to him about his experience in the Grand Final and on Grand Final Day and what that’s all like, and what he’s been doing since,” Mr Watts said.
Joining Stokes as a guest speaker is Paddy McCartin, a former Sydney and St Kilda player who had to retire from the game early due to concussion.
McCartin will share how he has coped with concussion and what he’s been doing since leaving the sport.
After doing comedy for more than 20 years, Victorian comedian Des Dowling will provide some laughs at the event.
Held at GMHBA Stadium, the annual fundraiser is open to all ages and helps raise money for sporting equipment and facilities for the year ahead.
Tickets are available in tables of 10 for $2,000 plus GST and entry includes a two-course meal, beer, wine and soft drinks.
The St Joseph’s AFL Grand Final lunch will be held on September 26 from 12 noon until 4.30pm.
