Magpies remain undefeated, Two Blues remain winless
A HIGH-scoring and entertaining round in the GCA1 Firsts has seen North Geelong improve to 4-0 and remain the only undefeated side after their win over South Barwon.
After bowling the Swans out for just 117, the Magpies went on to face 88 overs and managed 266 runs in a dominant second day.
Vice-captain Ned Cooper and Philip Visser led the way with a 104-run partnership as the reigning premiers ran away with the victory.
Meanwhile, last season’s other grand finalists Newtown & Chilwell may be starting to panic after they were denied their first win of the season by East Belmont.
The Two Blues made a formidable total of 215 last weekend, but they were blown out of the park by a fierce Lions outfit that finished day two at 303 runs with five wickets in hand. James Lidgett top scored with 85 runs in the impressive chase.
St Joseph’s successfully defended their total of 292 made on day one against Grovedale thanks to a five-wicket haul from Austin Humphrey.
The Tigers challenged Joeys at Burdoo Reserve, sitting at 7/222 at one stage until Humphrey cleaned up their bottom order and sealed the victory for his side.
St Peter’s put the foot down on day two following James Stokes’ seven wickets last weekend to cruise to a win over Lara.
After holding the Cats to just 113 runs, the Saints declared late on Saturday afternoon at 292 thanks to an even contribution from their batting attack.
This weekend will see the first day of Round 7, in which first-placed North Geelong will face second-place East Belmont in what should be a scintillating clash. Elsewhere, Newtown & Chilwell face St Joseph’s, Grovedale face St Peters and South Barwon face Lara.
In the GCA2, Highton beat Geelong City, Bell Park beat Bell Post Hill, Leopold beat Torquay and Geelong West beat Alexander Thomson.
Round 7 will see Highton face Bell Post Hill, Bell Park face Leopold, Torquay face Geelong West and Geelong City face Alexander Thomson.
