AFL Barwon have released an updated transfer list ahead of the local football season’s return next month, with plenty of fresh faces and new opportunities across the GFL and BFL leagues.

With nearly 150 approved transfers, both leagues are set for major shakeups.

The Surf Coast Suns were by far the busiest club given they are entering the league for the first time, with former Geelong Cats and North Melbourne key forward Aaron Black leading the list of signings.

Black was the Suns’ inaugural signing back in 2025 and brings much-needed experience both on and off the field for the new side.

Last year’s BFL runners-up Geelong Amateur have strengthened their list with the signing of former St Kilda key Hugh Goddard. He returns to his junior club after a stint with the University Blues in the VAFA.

Former St Joseph’s gun James Hickey also joins the Ammos for 2026, whilst Blake Sutterby exits as he returns to Newtown & Chilwell in a significant pick-up as they look to make a premiership push under coach Steve Johnson.

With GFL club Lara not fielding a senior side this year, superstar Darby Henderson has signed with Leopold and will bolster their midfield stocks. Henderson led the league in disposals last season, averaging over 45 per game.

The GFL season will start on April 4 when St Joseph’s take on Leopold in Lorne, while the BFL will begin on April 3 when Geelong Amateur host Modewarre.
